Around and About on the Trip

You know, I traveled 4,700 km (almost 3,000 miles) on this 6 week journey around northern Thailand. I came back badly in need of rest from bumping around on the not so smooth roads here and there. But it was a great adventure and I would recommend it to everyone. Here are a few random photos from that trip.

A much different interpretation of the often seen image
every pool hall needs this addition to a table
my friend Roy helps take care of dogs at the crematorium. Here are the new additions.

Flying High…On The Ground Coffee!

Snake café, and what is next; an airplane café? Exactly. In Chiang Mai there is an airplane cafe. We had to go on the way back from Pai! Everyone has to try it.

Roy has the right idea. Get a ticket first. So we had to first go to the ticket counter at the terminal.
120 Baht flight charge, includes one coffee.
we follow the crew onto the plane
all aboard!
OK, I got my ticket
They checked my boarding pass
now we order a coffee
We are required to sit in the waiting area
funny ladies come to entertain us
This is our airplane
Now we can enjoy our coffee in the spacious business class area
BUT THEN THE CAPTAIN INVITES US INTO THE COCKPIT TO EXPLAIN ALL OF THE INSTRUMENTS. HE LOOKS VERY YOUNG BUT HE ASSURES US HE HAS ALL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS.
The captain shows us a trick to flying a big plane. It has to do with very expert finger movements.
After we land at our “no coffee” destination we are greeted by the lamp man. He says “thank you for flying coffee airlines.

40 Years Later….

In about 1985 I took the slow, local train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on a hard wooden seat in second class. I guess the average speed was about 50 km/hour, very slow. After many, many hours I got tired or riding, mostly in the parts of the body that come into direct contact with the wooden seat, so I alighted in Nakon Sawan. After almost 40 years later I returned, a few days ago, and found it much more developed, easier to get around and the popular sites still there, of course. Here are some of the best photos I took of temples and scenes.

Before we begin, a little morning humor from a motorcycle seat.
A friend in Koh Chang drew a line in the sand. Yes, it was my birthday. Thanks E……..! Grazie!
