At Wat Maha Wanaram it seems as though I walked in on a celebration so I just tiptoed and took a few photos. All of the temples in this phlog are in Ubon Rachatani, the Northeast part of Thailand, heavy with old Khmer (Cambodia) and Lao influences. The Northease is often called “Lao” since it was part of Lao until presented to Thailand by the French Colonialist authorities who governed Laos. It is a wonderful place to visit.

The potpourri of temples

These are amazing photos of amazing statues and cultural figurines and structures. Do you know what centuries most of these were built or created? I am guessing over many centuries but ?? AD or BC dates.
Most of what you see was built in the last 30 or 40 years. Some of the artifacts inside the temples and some of the foundations are maybe 80 to 100 years old. The styles are reminiscent of the last 400 years. The Khmer empire built some temples about 800 years ago but most of those are in very poor shape as you can see in Ayuthaya and many cities close to current Cambodia. Thailand is a relatively new country made up of various districts that had many of their own small temple structues were poor farming areas without the accumulated wealth to build fantastic structures. Many of the great temples today were not here when I left Thailand in 2000. Most of them are constructed to promote tourism.
Wow I would have guessed much older as 600-1000ac. So I’m guessing many of these are based on past cultural icons
